We do All the Wrong Things, But...

It has long been known that Latinas, even though we often suffer from excess weight, high cholesterol and blood sugar, bad nerves, bad joujou and all kinds of other maladies, tend to live much longer than gringas who read labels compulsively, eat mostly vegetables and jog every single day.

How is that possible, you say? Well, maybe our tendency to complain endlessly, in uncensored Spanish and out loud, provides handy escape hatch relief for all nasty things. Or maybe it's our dogged will to live, no matter how screwed up things get.

There's this insane energy, this overwhelming life force in the humblest of us that's impossible to attribute to any cause known to humans. You can see it flashing in Latina eyes. Could we bottle this and sell it to whites? I don't know. If we could, famous media doctor Dr. Manny Rico Perez surely would have found a way by now.

Some time ao, I heard that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) over in Georgia (USA),had investigated this phenom, but alas, I never found out the results. Guess I'll just have to live with the mystery, and enjoy its benefits, while I can.
